They all probably say the same thing when you ask how: maintenance! Below are some maintenance tips to make the engine, transmission and other parts of your vehicle last longer.
- Check the oil: The simplest task to extend the life of your vehicle is to maintain the oil in the engine. It’s important to change the oil and the filter every 5,000. 7.500 or 10,000 miles.
- Timing belt replacement: The timing belt should be replaced at intervals between 50,000 and 110,000 miles.
- Transmission fluid replacement: Having the proper amount of fluid is crucial because it cools the transmission. The fluid deteriorates over time. Signs of transmission problems include if the fluid turns dark in color or has a burnt smells. Make sure to check the fluid when the engine is running.
- Radiator coolant flushing: Rust and corrosion can build up and harm the engine, it is suggested to change the coolant every 30,000 miles.
- Top off brake fluid: If you have too much water in the break fluid, stepping on the brakes generates hear which can boil the water in the line. This effects the vehicle’s stopping distance.
- Rotate your tires: You should get your tires rotated and aligned often. It’s just as important to maintain proper air pressure in the tires.
