Tips to Get Your Vehicle Road Trip Ready This Summer
Now that the sun is shining and the city is done defrosting, it is essential for all drivers to get their vehicles summer ready. All cars function differently in the winter than in the summer, so follow the tips below to ensure every summer road trip is one to remember.
Tires
The first thing you want to do to prepare your car for the summer is to replace your winter tires with summer tires. The most reliable summer tire brands include Michelin, Bridgestone, and Continental. These brands are very reliable and will keep you moving all summer long.
In addition to replacing your tires, you will also want to check the pressure and tread. Tires typically lose air from month to month, so it is important to constantly measure the pressure inside of them. As for the tread, a good rule of thumb is to keep each track as thick as half of a penny. If you stick a penny inside of your tire’s thread, half of it should be visible.
Fluids
It is also imperative to maintain proper fluid levels, especially in the summer. Regular oil changes keep the engine running efficiently while improving overall performance. In addition to an oil change, you should also maintain proper coolant and wiper fluid.
Battery
Lastly, you will want to keep an eye on your car’s battery. This includes keeping an eye out for any signs of corrosion or lose wires. If you do notice any signs of corrosion, it is necessary to immediately clean the battery. Mixing a tablespoon of baking soda with about 8 ounces of hot water is a very useful solution to clean any grime or gunk.
