2019 Mazda CX-5 Set to Get the 2.5T Engine?

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 on course to use a SkyActiv-G 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine? With models like the CX-9 and the Mazda6 containing a 2.5T engine, it is easy to speculate that the CX-5 will be the next model to follow this trend.

A document that was sent to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is said to contain information indicating that Mazda’s CX-5 will use the 2.5T engine for the 2019 model year. The 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine will produce 250 horsepower and deliver 310 lb-ft of torque.

Although this compact crossover utility vehicle is already using the 2.5T engine in Australia, it is not yet available in CX-5’s in the American market. CX-5’s in the United States are only available with a 2.5L naturally-aspirated SkyActiv petrol engine that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, while working in conjunction to a six speed automatic transmission.

Additionally, the document sent to CARB is also said to indicate that Mazda’s 2019 CX-5 will be available in a brand new, luxurious ‘signature’ trim grade. This trim is said to include nappa leather trim and real wood cabin inserts-comparable to the redesigned Mazda 6 Atenza that is currently available in Australia.
