New Mazda CX-50 Earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 was just awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. The award is yet another recognition of the excellent Mazda CX-50 safety rating. With incredible safety features, like seat belt reminders and a front crash prevention system, it’s no wonder that the CX-50 has a superior rating for safety.

IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a private nonprofit organization funded by automobile insurance companies and insurance organizations. Its mission is to “reduce losses from motor vehicle crashes.” They do so by reviewing deaths, injuries, and property damage that results from motor vehicle crashes, as well as by researching and reporting on crashworthiness, crash avoidance, and roadway design.

IIHS determines the Top Safety Pick+ award winners through several stringent safety crash tests. These tests include a Driver’s Side Small Overlap Front crash test, a Passenger Side Small Overlap Front crash test, a Moderate Overlap Front crash test, a Side Impact crash test, Head Restraints tests, a Front Crash Prevention Systems test, and a Headlight Rating test. The Mazda CX-50 was recognized as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for meeting all six IIHS crash-worthiness evaluations for vehicles built after December 2021.

The Award-Winning Mazda CX-50

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 won big when it comes to highway safety IIHS. The CX-50’s TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award shows that the vehicle’s safety features are second to none. For the higher-tier IIHS award, good or acceptable headlights must be standard across all trims.

The 2023 CX-50 stood out because of its standard front crash prevention system, which earned superior ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. The curve-adaptive LED projector headlights supplied with the three Turbo trims and static LED projectors installed on other trims earned a good rating. The SUV also earned a good rating for its seat belt reminders and a good+ rating for its child seat attachment (LATCH) hardware.
